The ESS ES9038Q2M D/A converter is responsible for this. It converts your music optionally via USB 1.0 with a maximum of 32 bits and 96 kHz. Via USB 2.0 even up to 32 bit and 384 kHz as well as DSD256.
And the whole thing is also fully balanced in the best quality.
After the conversion comes the amplification
And what an amplification! With up to 320 milliwatts of output power at 16 ohms via the balanced connection, the FiiO K3 will drive almost any headphone to peak performance. Up to 220 milliwatts of power is also available at the unbalanced connection. More than enough to keep you in control even at higher levels.
So much power needs structure - and stable, clean power.

The FiiO K3 2021 draws its power entirely from the USB-C port. No separate power supply, no additional cable connection.
Now not every computer delivers a smooth current curve and a clean voltage. FiiO also knows this and has taken precautions.
For one thing, the K3 2021 has integrated overload protection, which protects the K3 from voltage peaks, as well as a sophisticated circuit design. Two filter stages ensure a smoothed voltage, while the digital and analogue power supplies are fed separately.
Full power under precise control
Although the volume control in the FiiO K3 is analogue, the necessary resistors are precisely controlled digitally.
Incredibly fine and accurate volume control is the reward for the effort.
Balanced or unbalanced headphone connection? The choice is yours

Just plug in your headphones. No matter which connection option. The FiiO K3 2021 automatically detects the connected headphones and switches the output accordingly.
If you choose the balanced connection, you even benefit from up to 50% more power and maximum channel separation.

For example, you can use the K3 2021 as a "pure" D/A converter and output the signal received and converted via USB optionally via the analogue line output instead of the headphone outputs. The best thing about this is that the volume of the line output can still be adjusted.
Or you can use either the optical or the coaxial digital output and benefit from the excellent conversion from USB to S/PDIF.
