Proprietary driver, a highlight of many technologies 106 mm planar driver
“When I listen to a large 15-inch speaker, I feel its rich energy reserves, how effortlessly it reproduces sound, and the low-frequency energy that pushes the air forward, which the listener can feel—it creates a real sense of presence. This time, I've transferred that experience to headphones with a newly developed and designed full-size 106mm planar driver. Several innovative acoustic patent technologies are used to further enhance the ultra-low frequency response capabilities of planar headphones.”

Gold and silver bring out the best in each other
Patented multi-layer gold and silver coating of the coils The FT7 uses FiiO's proprietary planar driver technology*—a patented multi-layer coating system. The planar driver uses high-performance PET as the diaphragm substrate and selectively applies gold and silver to create a multi-layer coated driver, thus utilizing the advantages of these two precious metals. This allows the FT7 to deliver an extremely detailed yet charming sound. Gold: Gold has a high density, very high internal resistance, and excellent ductility. The additional gold coating improves the damping of the membrane, making the mid and low frequencies sound relaxed and pleasant. Silver: Silver is characterized by low resistance and high electrical conductivity. High-frequency currents flow quickly and with minimal loss through pure silver material, resulting in very detailed highs. In addition, silver is not very dense and is lightweight, which improves the sensitivity of the driver.

Top-of-the-line planar driver
1μm thin diaphragm
Engineers have constantly strived to develop thinner and lighter diaphragms for planar drivers. After two years of independent research and development, FiiO has developed a class-leading, ultra-thin 1μm diaphragm for the FT7, which uses high-performance PET as the carrier material. The difference between a 2μm and a 1μm diaphragm thickness results in noticeable performance differences when the diaphragm vibrates at high speeds, which ultimately affects the sound quality. The FT7's ultra-thin 1 μm diaphragm is exceptionally light and can respond at lightning speed. It reproduces even subtle sounds in the ultra-high frequency range faithfully and offers an exceptional dynamic range.
*The driver is printed with the words “Designed and manufactured by FIIO”.
Advanced technology for advanced sound
28 nm process technology
To ensure that the driver diaphragm can be manufactured to a sufficiently high standard, the FiiO FT7 driver is manufactured using a 28 nm process. Inspired by the coating technology used in the semiconductor industry, this technique completely isolates the conductive circuit material from the ambient air. The conductor material is placed in a vacuum with a pressure of 6.6 × 10-³ pascals, and the temperature is raised to 120 °C. The conductor material is converted into ionized particles, which then accumulate on an ultra-thin 1 μm film through the principle of charge attraction. This process achieves the desired layer thickness for optimal acoustics and significantly increases the durability and service life of the conductor tracks*.
*Contrary to popular belief that planar drivers have a short service life, the proprietary driver was subjected to aging tests in FiiO laboratories for over a year. During this test period, there were no cases of delamination, separation, or wire breakage in general. The sound quality continues to meet standards.
Flowing stripes, a natural work of art
Natural zebrawood grille
The front cover of the FT7 grille is made of zebrawood sourced from West Africa from trees that normally grow at an altitude of 1,600 meters. Its grain resembles the flowing patterns of a zebra, a dynamic animal that well represents the unique wilderness of the West African highlands. Each grille strip is precisely aligned with the magnet positions, resulting in a reduction in sound wave interference caused by reflections from the grille.
Balanced energy, even power
Patented uniform magnetic field design
Finite element analysis shows that conventional rectangular magnet designs have uneven magnetic fields, with some areas particularly strong and others weak. This results in uneven forces acting on the voice coils within the magnetic field, which can cause the driver to fail due to uneven movement and thus lead to distortion. The FT7 is equipped with FiiO's patented acoustic technology – the Uniform Magnetic Field Design. Through the optimized arrangement of the magnetic circuit and the use of magnets with rounded corners, FiiO is able to achieve a uniform magnetic field that ensures that all parts of the planar driver diaphragm are evenly loaded. This reduces driver breakup and minimizes distortion.
Patent No.: ZL202420884963.1
Thanks to the patented uniform magnetic field design, the magnetic field area is expanded. This not only contributes to the high sensitivity of the FT7's large 106 mm driver, but also helps to reduce the weight of the driver, thereby improving wearing comfort. Each driver in the FT7 features 18 powerful N52 neodymium magnets with a magnetic flux of up to 1.5 T. The magnets provide ample energy reserves for excellent transient response and structured bass.
5-40kHz wide frequency response, hear every detail
Flagship quality, but easy to carry, weighing 427g Comfort is something FiiO has always paid attention to. Although the FT7 has a large 106mm planar driver, it weighs only 427g, which is exceptional among high-end planar headphones.
Large carbon fiber housing
No expense has been spared to reduce the weight of the headphones as much as possible. As a result, much of the headphones are made of lightweight, high-strength carbon fiber, making the FT7 comfortable to wear even during long listening sessions.
Cryogenic treatment at -192°C
Liquid nitrogen-frozen monocrystalline copper cable
A new cable made from over 6N OCC (99.99998%) high-purity monocrystalline copper has been specially developed and tuned for the FT7 and its sound characteristics. The copper undergoes a 7-day low-temperature treatment with frozen nitrogen at -192°C. This accelerates the breakdown of internal stresses in the metal material and the alignment and narrowing of the crystal boundaries to improve electrical conductivity and signal transmission. This ensures that free electrons can flow smoothly from one atom to another in the conductor, improving sound quality. In addition, PFA with a dielectric constant of only 2.1 is chosen as the insulating layer for the cable. PFA has damping and shock-resistant properties that can also contribute to the sound image. Planar headphones generally have high resolution but tend to sound a little “dry.” The PFA insulating layer not only preserves the high resolution of the single-crystal copper wire, but also helps to adjust the mid and low frequencies, adding a touch of richness to the sound for a relaxed and enjoyable listening experience.
