The FiiO BTA30 Pro in summary: Even though the BTA30 Pro differs only slightly visually from the BTA30, from a technical point of view it is a consistent further development of the BTA30 with convincing improvements in performance and usability.
The most important differences between the FiiO BTA30 Pro and the FiiO BTA30 at a glance:
Improved USB DAC - resolutions up to 384 kHz/32bit instead of 48kHz/16 on the BTA30.
Improved DSD decoding - Supports DoP 64/128/256 instead of DoP 64
Transmits now also in LDAC - Supports LDAC in TX mode (USB in)
Speakers and Bluetooth headphones at the same time - Can drive line out and Bluetooth receiver in parallel in TX or DAC mode
Simple push-button operation - Change the input signal simply by pushing a button
Improved pairing - Dedicated button for each headphone
Low Latency at the touch of a button - Switch between HD and LL (Low Latency) at the touch of a button.
FiiO BTA30 PRO - Good, even better!
The FiiO BTA30 PRO in summary: With the BTA30 PRO, FiiO makes a virtue out of necessity and develops the already extremely successful BTA30 even further. This was made necessary by the unavailability of the originally used AKM AK4490 DAC. This has now been replaced by the ESS ES9038Q2M, a 32-bit DAC chip (instead of the previous 24 bits) that is suitable for even more formats. What else has been improved? Find out below.
The highlights of the FiiO BTA30 PRO at a glance:
Always high quality connected - Via Bluetooth 5.0 with LDAC, aptX and more.
Built-in external antenna - Up to 30 metres transmission and reception range
Versatile - Can be used as Bluetooth transmitter and receiver
First-class D/A converter - ESS ES9038Q2M converter chip for finest sound
App-controllable - Volume, audio filters, channel balance and more
Ready for a firm connection - Wireless via Bluetooth 5.0
The Bluetooth protocol has evolved steadily since its development more than twenty years ago, and with its current version 5.0, it has truly "grown up". The progress compared to the previous Bluetooth version alone looks brilliant: Double the transmission speed, four times the range and eight times the amount of data that can be transmitted simultaneously.
However, the underlying Bluetooth version is "only half the battle", after all, the corresponding Bluetooth codecs must also be supported so that the music travels in high quality. This is not a problem in the FiiO BTA30 PRO, as SBC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD and LDAC are available here. This makes the FiiO BTA30 PRO both up to date and backwards compatible with virtually all Bluetooth-enabled devices on the market.
Best transmission and reception performance - thanks to external antenna
With more and more wireless connections in the home, clean and interference-free Bluetooth reception eventually becomes a challenge. That's why FiiO has decided to equip the BTA30 PRO with an external antenna that can be screwed onto the back of the housing in just a few simple steps.
This not only ensures much better and more reliable reception, but also an immense range of up to 30 metres (depending on other radio networks and obstacles between the transmitter and receiver).
Bluetooth transmitter or Bluetooth receiver? - You decide!
If we had to describe the FiiO BTA30 PRO in one word, it would be "flexibility". Receiving music via Bluetooth The FiiO BTA30 PRO can receive music from almost any Bluetooth-enabled device and output it in analogue via stereo RCA and in digital via its optical or coaxial digital output to an amplifier or downstream, high-quality D/A converter.
Sending music via Bluetooth
In the case of the FiiO BTA30 PRO, the reverse is also true. Once connected via the optical/coaxial digital input or via USB-C, it passes the music signal wirelessly via Bluetooth to any Bluetooth receiver such as headphones or active speakers via SBC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD, LDAC (LDAC does not work via USB). And the best thing about it: receiving and sending music via Bluetooth even works with two devices at the same time!* When using LDAC or aptX LL, the BTA30 PRO can only supply one device via Bluetooth at a time Can also be used as a pure D/A converter Sometimes it doesn't have to be wireless, but the music signal should simply "only" be converted and passed on in a high-quality way. That's when the DAC/bridge mode in the FiiO BTA30 PRO comes into its own. It accepts music digitally from the optical/coaxial digital input as well as via USB and passes it on both digitally optically/coaxially and converted to analogue via stereo RCA.
New: DAC upgrade! - From the AKM AK4490 to the ESS ES9038Q2M.
Almost every type of music comes into contact with a digital process at some point in the FiiO BTA30 PRO. All the more important that everything really fits in the process. And since the AK4490 DAC chip from Japanese specialist AKM is no longer available, FiiO has taken the opportunity to upgrade.
The ES9038QM is the new "digital heart" of the BTA30 PRO. And it does so with the highest accuracy, namely 32 bits and a maximum of 384 kilohertz. In addition to high PCM resolutions, this also enables native DSD256, which is a significant advance over the predecessor model.
New: Beam me up, Scotty! - Even better with upsampling!
Having just said (or rather written) that precision is one of the highest goods in the digital realm, FiiO underlines this once again very, very clearly. With the CT7302EL DSP from TE Connectivity Ltd.
Means nothing to you? No problem, the function of the DSP is much more important anyway. It upconverts all incoming digital signals to 32 bit/384 kHz before further processing, thus guaranteeing the highest quality. And that right from the start.
New: Another upgrade! - Even more at the USB port
You could be forgiven for thinking that FiiO has a policy of "if you're going to upgrade, you're going to upgrade". And so they have taken the opportunity to upgrade the USB port as well.
The XMOS XUF 208 chip is now used there, which also raises the signal processing at the USB-C connection to 32 bits and 384 kHz. And of course, native DSD256 is also included.
Everything under control - with the practical FiiO Control app.
Especially when playing music from your smartphone or tablet, you'll appreciate the benefits of the FiiO Control app, available for iOS and Android. It allows you to conveniently control the volume via Bluetooth (except when playing via Bluetooth), adjust the different audio filters, set the channel balance and more.
Just give it a try!
