From the selection of drivers and diaphragm materials to the design of the acoustic chamber—every element is shaped by FiiO’s pursuit of the ideal analog sound, particularly in achieving warm, relaxed, and rich vocal reproduction.

FiiO focused on fine-tuning the transition frequencies in the range critical for vocals to create a sound that is both three-dimensional and full-bodied. The diaphragm, made of a natural cashmere-wood fiber composite, captures the authentic warmth and texture of the human voice. The specially developed balanced armature drivers, featuring redesigned rear chambers and high-quality diaphragm materials, are engineered to deliver expansive mids as well as airy, spacious, and detailed highs.

In contrast to the cold, sterile nature of synthetic industrial materials, the high damping of cashmere and wood fibers is perfectly tailored to the preferences of the human ear. They serve as a warmer, more emotional medium for sound. FiiO employs a centuries-old traditional papermaking process in which pure natural fibers are carefully ground and filtered. By incorporating high-quality wool fibers, FiiO has created a diaphragm that is both stiffer and incredibly lightweight. Through extensive adjustments to fiber length, proportion, type, and hot-pressing parameters, FiiO has achieved the ideal balance between clarity and resolution in the midrange—delivering natural and rich vocals that are pleasing to the ear.

Special Technology for Sibilance Suppression

To develop a smooth, fatigue-free vocal profile and minimize the harshness of typical sibilance, the FiiO team developed a specialized acoustic solution. This involved adapting a high-precision fourth-order filter circuit—typically found in high-end speakers—to the compact IEM form factor. This makes it possible to precisely isolate the sibilant frequency band of 6–8 kHz. This is achieved in conjunction with an active electronic notch filter, which produces a precise attenuation in this specific frequency range to effectively suppress the harshness. Unlike conventional methods, this approach eliminates sibilance while preserving the spaciousness and detailed reproduction of frequencies above 8 kHz, resulting in a listening experience as smooth and delicate as silk.

Retro-Style Vocal Tuning

FiiO’s goal was to capture the soul of classic vocal recordings. Rather than overemphasizing extreme dynamics or clinical resolution, they focused on recreating that elusive “analog sound character.” FiiO developed this sound in collaboration with its community, gathering extensive feedback and studying the sonic characteristics of classic CD players and cassette decks. Through countless rounds of testing and refinement, FiiO succeeded in developing a distinctive sound that the company believes will resonate with many listeners: a warm, atmospheric soundstage paired with airy highs that remain pleasant even after hours of listening.
