Dual DAC ESS ES9038PRO - channel-separated for the highest sound quality
Not only is the ESS ES9038 PRO digital-to-analogue converter beyond reproach, it is also installed in the FiiO M17 in a dual version - one for each channel. This assures the music player not only of the highest sound purity and detail, but also the greatest possible support for file formats, resolutions and sampling rates.
In concrete terms, this means that signal processing up to 32 bits and 768 kHz as well as DSD512 in the highest quality are available.
Concentrated power at the headphone jack - up to 3,000 milliwatts of power!
Together with the American company THX, FiiO has designed the THX 788+ headphone amplifier. In addition to excellent measurements in the laboratory, this amplifier scores with an incredible amount of power of up to 3,000 milliwatts per channel. And since the headphone amplifier is also channel-separated, the 3,000 mW power per channel applies!
The perfect amplification for every headphone - Adjustable in 5 steps
Particularly sensitive in-ear monitors require a completely different amplification factor than, for example, high-impedance over-ear headphones in order to sound perfect. That's why the FiiO M17 features a total of five different gain levels (i.e. amplification factors). In battery mode, low gain is available for particularly sensitive in-ears, through medium gain and high gain to over-ear headphone mode for high-impedance headphones.
When the FiiO M17 is paired with the included docking station with integrated fan, it is really unleashed, because then the Enhanced Over-ear Headphone Mode is available, which provides maximum performance even for the most demanding headphones.
This also explains the two mains adapters included in the scope of delivery. One for charging the battery, the other for supplying power in desktop mode on the dock.
A wide range of connection options - wireless and wired

With Bluetooth 5.0, the FiiO M17 not only adds a high range and interference resistance, but also an enormous variety of standards. In addition to SBC and AAC, aptX, aptX-HD and LDAC are also available in the transmitter direction.
And the best thing about it: The M17 not only sends music via Bluetooth, but also receives it! This means that the player also functions as a high-quality Bluetooth receiver; and it does so via SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX LL, aptX HD, aptX Adaptive and LDAC. The music received in this way is then output as usual via its headphone connections, USB or the coaxial digital output and ensures the best sound.
2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN - Music from NAS and the Internet
Even though the FiiO M17 has a huge storage capacity, sometimes you need a little more. And thanks to the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz WLAN, the music can come directly from the NAS at home or from the streaming service of your choice (e.g. Tidal, Deezer, Spotify, Qobuz). As a USB transport, the music stored on the player is simply passed on in digital form to a DAC connected behind it, which then decodes your music. Of course, this also works via the coaxial digital output.

The structure of the processor follows the Big.LITTLE concept - four powerful cores are used for computationally intensive tasks and four energy-saving cores for less demanding processes. On the one hand, this ensures that the M17 always responds smoothly to operating inputs, but on the other hand, it also plays music throughout the day.
Besides the processor itself, the rest of the equipment is also impressive. Namely, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal memory (expandable up to 2 TB via microSD) and an Adreno 512 graphics processor that cuts a fine figure in videos and games.
Sophisticated cooling concept - convincing both actively and passively
With the extremely powerful hardware built into the FiiO M17, there is one problem during operation: waste heat. Or, actually not. FiiO has taken the necessary precautions and created an appropriate cooling concept.
The housing of the M17 is made entirely of aluminium, which already effectively dissipates heat. In addition, there is a so-called "vapour chamber" inside the player, i.e. a special liquid cooling system that always keeps the FiiO M17 within the optimal temperature range.
And when things get really busy on the dock in desktop mode, the fan integrated into the dock helps to dissipate the waste heat quickly and efficiently.
Separately built for a common goal - perfect sound
In the end, while all the components of the FiiO M17 must work together and form a single unit for the stated goal - excellent sound - each assembly is specialised and optimised for its own purpose. What could be more obvious than to physically decouple the components from each other so that they do not influence each other?
